About the artwork

Work by Ladin artist Gregor Prugger is part of the Falcone Foundation’s project for the ‘Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino Museum of Contemporary Art’

Until the end of September, the exhibition ‘Baum für alle’ (L’albero dei Tutti) will be on display, a sculpture by Ladin artist Gregor Prugger dedicated to all victims of the Mafia. The project, curated by Alessandro de Lisi, is part of the initiatives supported by the Province of South Tyrol for the Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino Museum of Contemporary Art.

The transfer and installation in Fortezza was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Alpini Mountain Troop Command and the Tridentina leadership, who accompanied the work from Bolzano with an operational team. The support of the Bolzano professional fire brigade was also essential, as they loaded the work at the Ottone Huber barracks in Drususallee and then transported it to Fortezza.

“The ‘Tree for All’ is a work that represents a powerful symbol of community and shared memory. Art has the extraordinary power to unite regions and generations in the name of justice and freedom. I am delighted that this work is reaching another important location in our country after already being exhibited in Silvius Magnago Square in front of the Provincial Council, the symbol of our autonomy,‘ explains Provincial Councillor Daniel Alfreider. ’The aim of the project is to symbolically unite Italy from South Tyrol to Sicily in the name of remembrance, the rule of law and beauty. In its autonomy, art can make an extraordinary contribution to promoting the values of justice and commitment in the present without losing its independence and poetic significance,” emphasises curator Alessandro de Lisi. ‘The fortress is an imposing testimony to past eras and, at the same time, a living place of culture and art. With the “Tree for All”, history and contemporary art come together in a unique dialogue that enriches the visitor’s experience. This initiative has a high symbolic value and represents an important moment in the work’s journey through Italy,’ emphasises Emanuel Valentin, director of the Franzensfeste Fortress.

After the exhibition at the Fortress of Franzensfeste, the work will be presented in Assisi on 4 October before reaching Bergamo, Aosta and Alba. The country has supported the activities of the Falcone Foundation for many years and participates in the projects of the ‘Museo diffuso’, which opened in Palermo on 23 May.
