Day of Contemporary Art

Time period

04. October at from 10 am until 6 pm

About the event

This year, the Franzensfeste Fortress presents two special exhibitions featuring photography by internationally renowned artists: the images of Tyrolean photographer Gregor Sailer, documenting the construction of the Brenner Base Tunnel, and the works of Hans-Günther Kaufmann, inspired by the three monotheistic religions and the themes of water, origin, and spiritual architecture.

Against this backdrop, the programme for the Day of Contemporary Art on Saturday, 4 October 2025 has been developed.

The Magic of the Camera Obscura

Have you ever peered through a tiny hole into an entire world of images? In our workshop you will journey back to the origins of photography and discover how fascinating pictures emerge from light and darkness – without any digital technology. Together with Silbersalz (Caroline Renzler and Fabian Haspinger), you will explore the essentials of image-making: subjects, composition, light, and contrasts. With the camera obscura, hands-on darkroom experience, and black-and-white photography, history comes alive.

The special part: the analogue photographs you develop on site will become a unique artwork to take home.

The camera obscura and all materials will be provided.
Admission to the Fortress (10 am–6 pm) and participation in the workshop are free of charge.

The workshop is part of the Kids Culture Festival 2025 and takes place within the Day of Contemporary Art by AMACI.
