About the event

TRËI – these are the three musicians Mara Miribung, Gizem Şimşek and Abélia Nordmann.

They sing the songs of women who keep vigil at the bedsides of the living and the dying: mourners, midwives, seers, witches. Crows, ravens and magpies accompany their tales and chants, foretelling war, bringing tidings of joy. With poetry and honesty, TRËI engages with persecution, empowerment and femininity, honouring all those who, for centuries, have sung alongside humankind at the edge of life.

Nordmann, Şimşek and Miribung perform Vocal Folk from different cultures, as well as their own compositions for cello, psaltery and harmonium.
Through staged concerts and interdisciplinary collaborations, the trio weaves adventurous vocal and instrumental music, always circling around the question of what it means to be human on a restless planet. The three women interlace their diverse backgrounds and celebrate diversity in all its forms.

TRËI is based in Basel; the trio’s name comes from Ladin.
