Kurztext

Before the Provincial Museum Franzensfeste Fortress closes its doors to the public in January and February, it offers a series of special Advent events in December.

Langtext

Is it still possible to celebrate Christmas as the feast of peace and love with a clear conscience in view of the decline of the values of solidarity and democracy that is taking place everywhere? Is it still possible to find authentic, genuine images and feelings for the much-invoked "silent" time, or is Christmas time already mercilessly exposed to the sell-out of kitsch and consumption?

Six artists have accepted the invitation to design the inner courtyards of the fortress with a work related to the Christmas season. Without sentimental Christmas frills and with a critical eye on the moral integrity and increasing commercialization of Christmas, Elisa Grezzani, Ruth Gamper, Hartwig Thaler, Matthias Schönweger, Jörg Zemmler, and Peter Verwunderlich transformed the courtyards of the Franzensfeste into a contemplative to quirky art trail.

On the occasion of the opening on Friday, 30th November at 6 p.m., the individual art installations were ceremonially unveiled and performatively presented in the presence of the artists.

The art show "Art in Advent" can be visited until 30th of December during the opening hours of the Franzensfeste fortress.
