Kurztext

South Tyrol gets a new art biennial

Langtext

The Franzensfeste Fortress will launch a new exhibition format on contemporary art, the Fort Biennale,
in summer 2024. This art bienniale will be curated every two years by an external curatorial team on a suitable
theme for the fortress and its future as a museum centre for the modern and recent history of South Tyrol.

For the current edition a jury nominated Ulrike Buck and Margareth Kaserer in autumn 2023.
Titled “In the body of language“ the two curators are developing a rich exhibition and collateral
programme that include both regional and international artists.

In the Body of Language
Im Körper der Sprache
Nel corpo del linguaggio

Language is our means of transferring information from one body to another. We learn and co-operate by using different language systems. Language builds worlds, both within ourselves and in our relationships with others. It is alive and in motion - its forms are characterised by major social upheavals. The exhibition, which spans several buildings in the fortress, explores the diverse dimensions of languages in identity and body politics, developments in communication technology and philosophy. Language as a form of art and art as a form of language intertwine and appeal to all the senses.
