Discover the fascinating history behind the imposing Franzensfeste fortress. Built between 1833 and 1838, it is a masterpiece of fortress construction and an impressive testimony to times gone by. Find out how Archduke Johann, the brother of Emperor Franz I, played a key role in the construction of this fortress.

During the tour, you will also explore the Upper Fortress, which has been faithfully preserved without any alteration to the buildings. Access is via an impressive underground staircase with 452 steps, secured by a passageway with embrasures, a gateway and parts of the fortress moat.

The Franzensfeste remains a fascinating testimony to the past and its interaction with the development of the region.

Price:Groups of up to 20 people = €100 + entrance fee
Groups of 21 people or more = €5 per person + entrance fee
Good to know: During the tour, we explore large parts of the fortress grounds, which means travelling long distances and climbing the steep underground staircase to the Upper Fortress. We recommend sturdy shoes so that you can move around comfortably and safely.
